Utility Allowances (UAs) are adjustments used to ensure that households do not pay more than their share of rent and basic utilities. If a tenant is responsible for some or all utilities—such as heat, electricity, water, or cooking fuel—Lewiston Housing applies the appropriate UA based on the type of unit and the utilities the tenant must pay.
UAs are not payments to the tenant; they are part of the rent calculation formula and help determine the maximum contract rent and the tenant’s portion of monthly housing costs. The charts below show the current allowances used in rent calculations.
