Martel School

Working with Avesta Housing as Lewiston Housing’s development partner, Martel School Apartments is an adaptive reuse of the vacant Martel Elementary School on Lisbon Street. Martel School Apartments was awarded a 9% LIHTC award in 2021, and it will provide 44 homes to seniors earning less than 50% or 60% of area median income (AMI). 23 units will have project-based vouchers allowing seniors to pay 30% of their adjusted monthly gross income towards rent.

Choice Implementation Grant

Lewiston Housing, with the City of Lewiston as co-applicant, submitted a Choice Implementation grant application in December of 2020. Lewiston Housing, in partnership with Avesta Housing, will lead the redevelopment of 92 deteriorated HUD-assisted residential properties (target housing units), including Maple Knoll, Lafayette Park, and several smaller scattered affordable properties, in three strategic replacement sites in the neighborhood.  In addition to the 92 assisted units LHA will build an additional 93 units of workforce and market rate units throughout these sites. 

Dewitt will be located on Pine Street across from Kennedy Park. This replacement site will contain two prominent buildings providing a total of 71 one- and two-bedroom units. Additionally, the first floor of each building will offer commercial space for retail or office space. An anchor tenant for one building will be a community food center offering healthy, affordable food as well as workforce development and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Wedgewood will be located further up Pine Street and focus on redeveloping the block surrounded by Pine, Pierce, Walnut and Bartlett Streets. This development will include 74 units throughout 10 buildings. This lower density development will be a mix of historic rehab of the Wedgewood Mansion, townhouses, and apartments. These buildings will contain a mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom units.

Phase 3 will be located at 100 Ash St and include two buildings providing a total of 40 units. The buildings will provide one-, two- and three-bedroom units.
