Lunchboxes for Literacy
in: Announcements on: 08/26/2024
Lewiston Housing is pleased to announce the launch of “Lunchboxes for Literacy,” a new program encouraging a love for reading among children in our community. This initiative, made possible by a generous grant from the Stephen & Tabitha King Foundation, reflects our commitment to ending food insecurity and supporting education in practical, meaningful ways. Each lunchbox is packed with engaging books and nutritious snacks, providing intellectual and physical nourishment. These lunchboxes symbolize our efforts to invest in the future of our community’s children.
The books included in this program have been carefully chosen to stimulate creativity, build knowledge, and strengthen literacy skills. Titles range from picture books like “Love is My Favorite Thing” to adventurous reads such as “The Last Comics on Earth,” offering something for every young reader. Including healthy foods underscores our belief in supporting both mind and body. By providing these resources, we aim to help our children stay focused and energized as they pursue their educational goals.
This program would not have been possible without the support of the Stephen & Tabitha King Foundation, whose commitment to literacy and community development has been instrumental in making “Lunchboxes for Literacy” a reality. We are grateful for their partnership and the opportunity to bring this valuable program to the children in our housing communities.
As we distribute these lunchboxes to over 220 children across our housing sites, we are confident that this initiative will make a positive impact. By addressing both educational and nutritional needs, we are helping to create a foundation for success. Thank you to everyone who has supported this program—together, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of our young residents.
